Celebrity Toasts to Elevated Bar Features

Craft beer enthusiasts and foodies flock to new Gastrobar venue.

Hop-heavy pale ale brewed in rural Michigan, the citrus-infused witbiers of sunny Florida, a dark Russian Imperial stout from California’s verdant valleys — guests onboard Celebrity Equinox can now sip these styles of microbrews and many others while sailing half-way across the world.

On trend with America’s booming craft beer craze, in summer 2014 Celebrity Cruises debuted Gastrobar, a new craft beer and comfort food concept onboard Celebrity Equinox. The upscale-casual venue, which replaced the wine bar space formerly known as Cellar Masters, serves over 40 handcrafted boutique beers, house-made cocktails and a diverse collection of wine, while featuring a menu of elevated bar-fare creations and rousing entertainment.

“We found that guests are more driven to areas where they can enjoy several types of beverages,” said Chanelle Duarte, Beverage Consultant for Celebrity Cruises. “We also wanted to find a way to reestablish our craft beer concept since Michael’s Club was transformed into a high value guest lounge. So we added the upscale bar food, we added several TVs, a small cocktail program and wines by the glass.”

After only being open for a mere few months, Gastrobar has rapidly become a popular gathering place for guests, and the venue is currently out-performing its previous wine bar space by over 40 percent. “It’s the only location where you can truly sit and watch important sporting events,” said Duarte. “Our entertainment team has made great strides to be able to offer quality sports programming, such as the World Cup and March Madness.”

And the suds aren’t the only draw for guests, as Gastrobar’s food menu features “a mix of creative bar items that cannot be found anywhere else on the ship,” said John Suley, AVP Food & Beverage Operations, Celebrity Cruises. Steamed pork buns, roasted bone marrow and truffle grilled cheese stand out among Suley’s favorite dishes on the a la carte menu.

Summer 2014 also saw the launch of Slush, Celebrity Equinox’s newest pool deck bar where delicious frozen cocktails are presented in a healthy and creative way using completely organic and natural ingredients. Gastrobar is also set to launch on the Celebrity Eclipse in April 2015. These two one-of-a-kind concepts, Duarte said, add a luxury drink experience to the array of guest-favorite features onboard Celebrity’s Solstice Class ships.
